See the First Folio and the Original Alice

An impressive collection of primary documents is available at the British Library Online Gallery. Flip through the pages of Shakespeare's First Folio, the actual Magna Carta, the Gutenberg Bible, Lewis Carroll's Alice and numerous other items in the collection.

Free podcasts can enhance understanding of the works. One 8 minute discussion of Evelyn Waugh, for example, includes a clip of the writer reading from his work. Most original texts are accompanied by background information, links, references and a timeline. Other tools allow for a comparison of two texts of the same document, such as different scripts for Hamlet. The documents can also be printed. There is no fee.

About Us

Beyond the basics, students will need 21st century competencies to survive and thrive in the future. They will have to know how to think critically, apply knowledge to new situations, analyze information, understand new ideas, communicate effectively, collaborate, solve problems, and make decisions. School districts are looking for ways to help students acquire these new skills while they also address NCLB mandates.

This 21st Century Connections site links students, teachers and administrators to the latest resources, creative tools and educational leaders behind digital learning. Provided by Lenovo, Adobe, Intel and Futurekids, the site is hosted by Technology & Learning, NewBay Media.
