Contest Information
What: The 21st Century Connections program invites K-12 students to participate in the launch of its first multimedia video contest. The competition, open to all K-12 students, challenges you to make 21st century technology a movie star in your own public service announcement. Students who create the most compelling videos win a laptop from Lenovo featuring Intel® Centrino® Pro processor Technology and Adobe Digital School Collection software.
How: Enter the best possible video that showcases why digital learning tools are important to your school or curriculum. The video should be between 2 - 3 minutes (nothing longer than 3 will be accepted), and it must focus on digital technology in today's schools.
Who Can Submit:
The contest is open to all K-12 students who submit a video between January 11, 2008 and February 29, 2008. Fill out an entry form for your video, sign the authorization form and be sure to include your description of why technology is important to learning on the entry form. Videos must be received by midnight, February 29, 2008.
Submission process:
Along with uploading your video, you will be asked to write:
- A short, 50-word description explaining why technology is important to education
- A description of what kind of software you used to edit your video. For tips and help on digital video - see "Introduction to Digital Video."
- If you need video software, download the free, 30-day trial of Adobe Premiere Elements.
How to Submit:
All-Star Video materials must be submitted electronically.
Teachers may submit classroom and/or individual videos OR students may submit their own individual videos.
Winners: 12 winners will be named, with 1 first place and 3 second place winners in each of the following categories: elementary, middle school, and high school.
Prizes:
First place winners receive a Lenovo ThinkPad T60, Model 8741-HJU and Adobe Digital School Collection. Student's school wins a technical assessment from Futurekids and up to 25 licenses for Adobe Digital School Collection. Second place winners receive Adobe Digital School Collection. Student's principal will win airfare, accommodations, and admission to an upcoming 21st Century Connections event. Prizes awarded to US and Canadian residents only.
Ownership Rights:
While the videographer retains ownership and copyright of the videos, entry of your video in the contest gives Technology & Learning and the 21st Century Connections partners the right to reproduce and display the video and stills from the video (in multiple media, including techLEARNING.com, Technology & Learning magazine, the 21st Century Connections Web site, the 21st Century Connections partners website and promotional materials) for promotional and educational purposes.
We will not be able to return videos.
Consent Forms:
The video must obtain all the necessary consents and authorizations from persons videotaped. Please download the appropriate forms, have them signed, and submit via fax (650.238.0263) or regular mail to: Jared Stearns, Technology & Learning magazine, Be a Video All-Star, 1111 Bayhill Drive, Ste 125, San Bruno, CA 94066. While we recommend that entrants include permission forms with their entries, they need not accompany submissions to be considered for the contest.

Beyond the basics, students will need 21st century competencies to survive and thrive in the future. They will have to know how to think critically, apply knowledge to new situations, analyze information, understand new ideas, communicate effectively, collaborate, solve problems, and make decisions.
